State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), through its wholly owned subsidiary Indonesia Power (IP) would borrow the transformer of its 3,400 MW Suralaya coal fired power plant unit 5 from PT Paiton Energy Company (PEC), a government official said.
PEC is controlled by Japanese firm Mitsui Corp.
“Actually, procurement of the transformer will be through tender. It will take at least 6 months to buy or rent the transformer, that’s why IP would borrow first from PEC,” Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources J Purwono said on Monday.
He said the Suralaya’s unit 5 would take a few weeks to enter the Java-Bali grid.
Earlier, PLN was looking for spare parts to fix the problem at the transformer of Suralaya’s unit 5 that has a power generation capacity of 600 MW.
Meanwhile, Suralaya General Manager Bambang Susianto confirmed that the company would borrow the transformer from PEC. “ We are still negotiating," he told to Petromindo.Com on Monday. (godang)
