Suralaya power plant to decrease coal consumption

Thursday, December 1 2011 - 05:28 AM WIB

PT Indonesia Power (IP), a power unit of state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said that its 3,400 MW Suralaya power plant in Cilegon, Banten will decrease its coal consumption for next year to 10.7 million tonnes from around 12 million tonnes of coal this year.

The official said that the decreasing consumption is caused by fact that new power plants will come onstream next year under the 10,000 MW power crash program, such as Pelabuhan Ratu and Indramayu power plants.

The coal volume for Suralaya will be decreased as requested by PLN?s planning. ?There is connection with our (power plant) unit performance,? the official said.

Around 50 percent of the total coal consumption for next year will be sourced from state coal miner PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA), about 40 percent from PT Adaro Indonesia, PT Kideco Jaya Agung and PT Berau Coal, and the remaining 10 percent from small-scale miners, the official said without giving the names of the small-scale coal miners.

The price negotiation for next year will use government?s reference price (HBA). ?With the HBA, the price negotiation will not take a long time,? the official added. (denny)
