The 3,400-MW Suralaya coal-fired power plant in Banten province is shutting down its 400 MW Unit 2 generator as part of a regular maintenance program.

Suralaya?s General Manager Sudirmanto told Petromindo.Com on Monday that the Unit 2 would stop operation from Monday (today) through next Wednesday.

Suralaya coal-fired power plant is operated by PT Indonesia Power, a wholly owned subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). It has 7 power generating units comprising of four 400-MW units and three 600-MW units.

Sudirmanto also said the firm is also expecting to resume the operation of its Unit 5 generator soon after the reparing works on its transformer have been completed. The Unit 5's transformer is being repaired in China and the transformer is expected to be shipped back to Indonesia in the end of August, he added.

In June last year, Indonesia Power announced the suspension of Suralaya's 600-MW Unit 5 due to the problems in its tranformer, noting that the repair works may take up to 12 months. (godang)
