Swadaya, Solar Inc to build photovoltaic solar module plant

PT Swadaya Prima Utama will team up with Canadian Solar Inc to build a photovoltaic solar modules manufacturing facility with capacity of 60 megawatt in Karawang, West Java, the Kontan business daily reported on Tuesday.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the joint construction of the plant was signed in Jakarta on Monday.

Swadaya Prima?s CEO M Syafri Syarief said in Jakarta following the signing of the MoU that the factory would be built on a 5-hectare area in Cikampek, and is expected to begin operation in 2015.

The factory would be able to produce photovoltaic solar modules with capacity of 60 MW a year to meet the growing demand in the country, he said, adding that the new factory would be located near the company?s first existing factory which has capacity to produce modules with capacity of 25 MW a year.

?The factory is designed to meet local demand. But there is a possibility to sell the modules overseas, he said. (*)
