Tai Power?s Indonesian 2003 coal import seen to increase

Taiwan uitility firm Taipower is expected to increase Indonesian coal import to 14 million tons this year from 12 million tons last year, a government official said Thursday.

The official, who declined to be named, said that Indonesian coal accounted for 59 percent of TaiPower?s entire coal requirement. The official expected that next year, Indonesian coal export to Taiwan would hover around 14 million tons.

Taipower operates 70 power plants with a total installed capacity of 30,136 MW, of which 68% was thermal and 17% nuclear.

Taipower buys Indonesian coal from contractors such as Berau Coal, Kaltim prima Coal, Kideco Jaya Agung, Adaro Indonesia, Kitadin and Multi Harapan Utama. (alex/robert)
