State-owned Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) is seeking to invest in an Indonesian coal mine project in an effort to secure coal supplies for its power plants, a company official said Tuesday.
?Indonesia is our important sources of coal. We are ready to participate between 5 and 15 percent in the country?s coal mine project,? Taipower?s deputy director Stanley C. M. Tsai told Petromindo.Com on the sidelines of the CoalTrans 2006 conference in Bali.
Tsai, however, did not disclose the figures of coal output expected from the investment plan.
According to Tsai, Taipower plans to import about 28.3 million tons of coal in 2006, of which around 16.6 million tons will be sourced from Indonesian coal mines.
Taipower imported about 16.3 million tons of coal from Indonesia last year. (alex)
