Taiwan’s state-owned Chinese Petroleum Corporation (CPC)expressed interest to invest in Indonesia's oil and gas sector both upstream and downstream, the Investor Daily Indonesia reported in its Wednesday edition.
CPC’s delegation led by its vice president and its representative in Indonesia met Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro on Tuesday in Jakarta.
“ We welcome it (CPC’s plan to invest in Indonesia). Because, there are several prospects in areas like exploration, exploitation of oil and gas, building of refineries and petrochemical plants,” Purnomo said in Jakarta after the meeting.
CPC said it would extend its contract to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Indonesia because gas demand in Taiwan was on the rise.
CPC’s LNG contract with Pertamina will end in 2009. Pertamina has been supplying LNG to Taiwan from Bontang gas field in East Kalimantan all these years.(*)
