Talisman, Marathon to commence deepwater drilling campaign 2009

Canadian top oil, gas firm Talisman Energy said on Thursday it and partner US firm Marathon Oil planned to commence drilling on the deepwater Pasangkayu block in Makassar Strait late 2008 or early 2009.
Talisman said 3-D seismic would be shot on the block prior to drilling.
Talisman has 30 percent in the block, which was awarded through regular tender round in 2006. Marathon is the block?s operator with 70 percent working interest. The partnership pledged to conduct 2,500 kms 2D seismic and committed to drill 4 wells in the block.
The 4,707.63 sq. km. block is located predominantly offshore the island of Sulawesi in the Makassar Strait, directly east of the prolific Kutei Basin oil and gas production region. Water depth of the block ranges from 100 meters to just over 2,000 meters.(alex)
