Negotiations between state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on the re-powering of Muara Karang power plant in North Jakarta near completion, Kontan reported on Monday.

Representatives of both PLN and Mitsubishi met senior officials of the Office of State Minister of State Enterprises late last week to finalize their negotiations over the value of the contract for the refurbishment of the Muara Karang power plant, said PLN?s vice President Director Rudiantara said.

?The meeting was held to finalize the negotiations over the value of the contract so that the contract for the re-powering project can be signed soon,? he said.

Mitsubishi won the tender to upgrade the capacity (re-powering) of the Muara Karang power plant last year. In July, this year, the two companies signed the contract for the $451 million re-powering project. Mitsubishi will cooperate with its local partner IDX-listed firm PT Truba Jaya Engineering to handle the project.

The re-powering project would replace the existing Muara Karang power plant?s Unit 1, 2 and 3 that have a total capacity of 300 MW with a new one that has a capacity of 700 MW.

The project is expected to be completed in 30 months and the re-powering project would be financed by Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC).

Muara Karang power station, located in the northern part of Jakarta, has a total installed capacity are 1208 MW. The power plant has several types of power generation units, including combined cycle type and gas turbine type. (*)
