Tambak Lorok Power plant in Central Java will start receiving gas at contracted volume of 50MMCFD from Pertamina?s Gundih block on May 10 as commissioning process is already in the advance stage, an official with state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) which owns the power plant said.

Fuel and Gas Division Head Suryadi Mardjoeki told Petromindo.Com that trial operation of Gundih central processing facility has been carried out at 40 percent capacity and will start flowing gas to the Gundih-Tambak Lorok pipeline for 2 weeks.

Suryadi said operation trial of Tambak Lorok fuelled by Gundih gas will commence on April 10 and one month later, gas volume will be increased to the contracted volume of 50MMCFD.

Tambak Lorok directly use 30MMCFD of the gas and the rest will be stored as compressed natural gas to fuel the power plant?s peak load.

Gundih is contracted to supply Tambak Lorok for 12 years.

Tambak Lorok, which has generation capacity of 1,000 MW was shut down in 2011 as part of PLN?s effort to reduce fuel cost as the plant was using costly high speed diesel as fuel. According to earlier reports, Tambak Lorok needs 160MMCFD of gas in order to be fully operational.

Tambak Lorok will receive 116MMCFD of gas under long-term contract from Petronas Operated Kepodang gas field in Muriah block next year.
