Tangguh LNG vessels ready to be delivered: BPMIGAS

Seven vessels which would operate solely to transport LNG from Tangguh LNG project, West Papua, to its customers across the globe had been successfully commissioned and ready to be delivered, upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said on Thursday.

The tankers are constructed in South Korea by Samsung (three units), Hyundai (two units) and Daewoo (2 units).

Three of the tankers would be operated by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. Teekay LNG Partners and Sovcomflot/ NYK Line consortium will operate two tankers each.

Local partners will hold between 5-30 percent stakes in the tankers.

Meanwhile, BPMIGAS also said that Tangguh LNG project had entered commissioning stage with plant construction 96 percent completed and Gas Pipelines Feed construction 99.9 percent completed.

BPMIGAS also said that the Tangguh LNG had conducted nitrogen run test for compressors, which was part of the plant?s commissioning.

Tangguh LNG plant, which is operated by Anglo-American giant BP plc is expected to ship first LNG in April 2009. The plant, which will havae capacity of 7.6 MTPA, will supply LNG to its customers in China, South Korea, Mexico and Japan.(alex)
