Tangguh next train may have capacity of 3.6MTPA

Anglo-American energy giant BP may build third LNG plant with capacity of 3.6MTPA at Tangguh LNG project in West Papua province, a government official said on Monday.

Director General of Oil and Gas Evita Legowo told reporters that the government and BP is currently evaluating gas reserves at Tangguh blocks and also evaluating the possibility to develop a petrochemical or fertilizer plant in the area.

Meanwhile, Minister of energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro hinted that the government may move to accelerate Tangguh expansion project. ?Now is the good time to develop Tangguh next train as development costs are going down,? he said.

Tangguh?s first and second LNG train with combined capacity of 7.6MTPA is slated to start production at the second quarter of this year. (godang/bernard)
