Tangguh to be shut down for maintenance

The Tangguh liquefied natural gas plant in Papua will be shut down from December to March for maintenance, oil an gas upstream sector regulator BPMIGAS said on Wednesday.

The plant has two production lines or train with a combined production capacity of 7.6 million metric tons per year.

?Each of the trains will be shut down for 1.5 months. The Train I will be shut down from December and Train II through March.

?Shipments to customers won?t be affected because we?ll find replacement from the Bontang LNG plant (in East Kalimantan),? BPMIGAS? spokesperson Elan Baintoro said.

British energy firm BP Plc holds a 37.16 percent share in the $5 billion Tangguh plant.

Tangguh, which started shipping cargoes last year, has multiyear contracts in place to supply 2.6 million tons a year to China, 1.15 million tons a year to South Korea and a flexible contract to supply as much as 3.7 million tons a year to Sempra?s LNG terminal in Baja California, Mexico, BP said on its website.
