The Tanjung Jati B and Cilacap coal-fired power plants are currently running at only 50 percent of their capacity following bad weather which troubled coal shipments to the power plants, a company official said Wednesday.

?We have reduced the Tanjung Jati B and Cilacap?s operating capacity starting Dec. 31 afternoon as coal shipments to the power plants turned to lower level due to bad weather,? PLN Director for Power Generation Ali Herman Ibrahim said.

?High waves of between 5-6 meters have hampered ships to enter the coal ports,? Ali said, adding that the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency had advised that the weather is expected to turn to normal on Jan. 4.

According to Ali, coal stock at the 1,300-MW Tanjung Jati B power plant was significantly low at 55,000 tons on Wednesday. The power plant requires about 11,000 tons of coal per day. (bernard)
