General Manager Tanjung Jati B Affianto Hapsoro told Petromindo.Com on Thursday that current coal stock was only enough to supply the plant for two weeks. Normally, power plants maintain at least 1 month of coal stock.
?Unloading activities are completely halted as the vessels are unable to berth unloading quay. One vessel carrying 45,000 tonnes of coal from Kaltim Prima Coal is currently anchoring 2 miles off the quay, waiting for the storm to subside,? he said. He added that the quay?s fender and unloading equipments were damaged by the storm and saying that repair works were underway.
Bisnis Indonesia daily reported in its Thursday edition that five vessels that were scheduled to unload at Tanjung Jati B had to cancel due to storm. The daily said quoting Affianto that coal stock at the plant was currently 300,000 tonnes.
?The disruption in coal supplies will certainly affect the Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant and if this situation continues, the power generation can be stopped,? he said as quoted by the daily.
The electricity generated from this plant is transmitted to the Java Bali transmission line.
The Sumitomo-controlled US$1.65 billion plant was inaugurated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last October. (godang)
