Tanjung Jati B formally declares Berau preferred coal supplier

East Kalimantan coal miner PT. Berau Coal said it had received formal notification from PLN to be selected as preferred supplier for 1 million tonnes coal supply contract for Tanjung Jati B 2x660 MW in Central Java, a company official said.

Berau Coal Marketing Manager Eko Budi told Petromindo.Com the low calorific value coal will be delivered in 2007. Eko said in November 2006 interview that the coal, which will be use to as blending will be delivered in January-June period.

?Berau is still waiting for contract finalization,? he said.

Other supplier which is also close to seal deal with Tanjung Jati B is PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), which will supply 2MTPA of medium calorific value coal for 10 years starting 2007.

Tanjung Jati B is owned by PT. Central Java Power (CJP), in which Japan trading house Sumitomo is controlling shareholder. CJP entered into a 20-year long-term lease with PLN, under which PLN will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the power plant during the lease period.

The plant commenced operations earlier this year. (godang)
