A unit of state electricity firm PT.PLN which operates 2x660-MW Tanjung Jati B power plant may open pre-qualification bid to supply term coal to the power plant within one or two month.

A PLN official contacted by Petromindo.Com on Wednesday said that preparation for the tender is underway, but said that PLN is still undecided whether to hold open pre-qualification bid or to hold limited pre-qualification bid.

The official said PLN is looking for 4 millions tons per annum supply for the power plant.

Earlier, Ali Herman Ibrahim, a PLN director told Petromindo.Com that PLN is eyeing to get coal supply from Indonesian top coal producers such as PT.Adaro Indonesia, Arutmin Indonesia, Berau Coal and Kideco Jaya Agung, all of which are Kalimantan coal producers.

The 2x660 MW Tanjung Jati B power plant, which is located in Central Java, is scheduled to commence operations in 2006.

The plant is owned by PT. Central Java Power (CJP), in which Japan trading house Sumitomo is controlling shareholder. CJP entered into a 20-year long-term lease with PLN, under which PLN will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the power plant during the lease period.

Meanwhile, an industry source said that PT. Sumber Segara Primadaya (SSP), which operates 2x300 MW Cilacap power plant in Central Java, had opened limited pre-qualification bid for 2.2 million tons per annum of term coal supply starting Seeptember 2005. The company has invited Adaro Indonesia, Berau Coal, Kideco Jaya Agung and Jorong Barutama Greston to participate.

The source, however, said that SSP might still short of supply, as the invited participants did not seem to be able to meet the required tonnage.

SSP is planning to accelerate commencement of operations of Cilacap power plant one year ahead of original schedule of 2006. (alex/godang)
