Tanjung Jati B opens tender for lower quality operating coal

State electricity firm PT. PLN is opening tender opening bid to supply low calorific value operating coal to its 2x660 MW Tanjung Jati B steam power plant in Central Java, according to tender announcement released Wednesday.

PLN said Tanjung Jati B was seeking between 0.5-1 million tons per year of low calorific value coal for approximately 10 years commencing June 2006 from Indonesian coal miners with existing and future coal operations.

PLN is seeking for coal with minimum calorific value of 5,100 kcal/kg on gross as received with FOB basis. Tender document can be obtained at PLN office in Jakarta starting May 12, 2005. Tender document would be closed June 9, 2005.

Earlier, PLN has open tender to seek 0.5-2 MTPA of medium calorific coal with minimum calorific value of 5,600 kcal/kg on gross as received with FOB basis.

Tanjung Jati B plant is owned by PT. Central Java Power (CJP), in which Japan trading house Sumitomo is controlling shareholder. CJP entered into a 20-year long-term lease with PLN, under which PLN will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the power plant during the lease period.
