State electricity firm PLN has resumed operations of one unit of power plant at the Tanjung Jati B 2x660-MW in Jepara, Central Java, which was shut down earlier due to coal supply shortage, an official said on Wednesday.

Tanjung Jati B General Manager Basuki Siswanto told Petromindo.Com that the power plant had resumed normal operations on Tuesday night and had resumed supply to Java-Bali electricity grid.

One coal vessel had unloaded coal to the power plant?s stockpile since Monday and as per Wednesday, stock stood at 60,000 tonnes, he said. Another PLN senior official Muljo Adjie said that two other vessels, each carrying 60,000 tonnes are on standby to unload their cargoes.

For the past two weeks vessels were unable to unload coal at Tanjung Jati B due to bad weather condition, forcing the power plant to shut down one of its units.

Cilacap 2x300 MW power plant in Central Java also experienced similar shortage and had to completely shut down.

Muljo Adjie said barges carrying coal to Cilacap might arrive on Thursday. (godang)
