State-owned electricity company PT PLN Batam Island branch started Monday a six-day rotating blackout on the island due to disturbance at the second unit of the 2x55 MW Tanjung Kasam coal-fired power plant.
PLN Batam Corporate Communications Manager Rudi Antono was quoted by Tribunnewsbatam.com as saying that there was a leakage at the pipe water intake of the power plant, affecting the second generating unit.
As a result, consumers will suffer rotating blackout for about 3.5 hours each days as the company will carry out emergency repair work at the plant for six days. (*)
