The 2x35 MW gas-fired power plant in Tanjung Uncang, Batam, Riau Islands Province, is scheduled to start commercial operation at the end of 2014.

PT Medco Power Indonesia as the developer of the project is currently preparing the gas allocation mechanism for the power plant.

?Regarding the gas distribution, there are two options. The first option is that the gas supply will come through a primary gas pipeline which must be developed first. This means that the power can only begin operation end 2015, which is too long, while the plant already existed,? said company Chief Business Development Officer, Noor Wahyu Hidayat to Petromindo.com recently.

Meanwhile, the second option is to source the gas from ConocoPhillips. ?We finally agreed with SKK Migas (upstream oil and gas authority) that the gas supply for the power plant will come from ConocoPhillips. As such, the power plant can begin operation by the end of 2014,? Noor said, while adding that the price of the gas will be determined by the government.

He said that construction of the power is still currently in progress. ?We?re not rushing to complete the plant because the gas is still not ready,? he said. The company signed the power purchase agreement with state-owned electricity firm PLN in 2012.
