Indonesia’s Forest Area Control Task Force (Satgas PKH) has seized 1,699 hectares of coal mining land operated by PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT) in Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan, and imposed administrative fines totaling more than Rp4.24 trillion, officials said on Thursday.

The task force said the land is now under state control and cannot be used or transferred without official approval under Presidential Regulation No. 5/2025 on forest area enforcement.

Satgas PKH spokesperson Barita Simanjuntak said the company’s coal mining permit under a Coal Mining Concession Work Agreement (PKP2B) was revoked in 2017 after it was used as loan collateral without government approval, based on an Energy Ministry decree dated Oct. 19, 2017. Despite the revocation, AKT was found to have continued mining and land clearing activities until Dec. 15, 2025, without submitting a required work plan and budget (RKAB).

Based on verification and audits, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry imposed a fine of Rp4,2 trillion (US$270 million), calculated at Rp354 million per hectare, under Ministerial Decree No. 391.K/MB.01/MEM.B/2025, the task force said.

Authorities have also begun asset controls at the site, placing 130 operational vehicles and heavy equipment—including dump trucks and excavators—under supervision. Satgas PKH said further enforcement steps, including potential criminal proceedings, could follow if additional violations are identified.
