Head of the Jakarta tax office Muhammad Said is optimistic that the tax dispute settlement body (BPSP) would rule in favor of the tax office in tax dispute against dozens of oil and gas contractors.

Said was quoted by the Bisnis Indonesia daily as saying that the BPSP had just recently dropped an appeal filed by oil and gas firm PT Kufpec Indonesia Ltd.

He was optimistic that BPSP would issue the same ruling on similar other cases involving other oil and gas contractors.

The tax dispute centers in the value added tax (VAT) worth around Rp 2 trillion (US$1=Rp 10,350) that must be paid by the oil and gas contractors. But the latter group has insisted that according to their contract with the state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina, the tax was not their responsibility.

The paper did not name the other oil and gas contractors.(*)
