Tax office seeks to collect tax from Berau Coal

PT Berau Coal, a subsidiary of IDX-listed coal mining firm PT Berau Coal Energy Tbk, has been engaged in tax cases totaling US$48.86 million, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.
The paper said that the Directorate General of Taxation in May issued tax collection letter to collect tax arrears totaling US$3.82 million from Berau Coal for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. ?The group is still considering its position regarding the tax collection letter,? the management said.
The tax office earlier turned down a complaint letter from Berau Coal regarding the $6.08 million in tax arrears it must pay for the period of 2008-2009. Berau said it would file for complaint with the tax court in July of this year. (*)
