TBS Energi, Batam Sarana plan solar power plants in Batam

IDX-listed energy company PT TB Energi Utama Tbk (IDX: TOBA) and PT Batam Sarana Surya plan to develop floating solar power plants in Batam Island, Riau Islands Province.

Antara reported that BP Batam (the Batam Island Development Authority) and the two companies signed on Friday an agreement on the lease of reservoirs for the two proposed solar power plant (PLTS) projects.

The agreement marks a significant step towards Batam's transformation into a renewable energy hub, as outlined by the Head of BP Batam. The initiative is part of a broader effort to boost the city's economy and national energy production through sustainable means.

Wan Darussalam, a member of BP Batam's Management Board, emphasized the project's alignment with the city's green energy aspirations. "This partnership is a major milestone for Batam's journey towards sustainable energy. The PLTS project is expected to enhance Batam's investment appeal and competitiveness," Wan stated.

The project, involving the development of floating solar power plants at the Duriangkang and Tembesi Reservoirs, is set for a 25-year tenure.

Denny Tondano, Director of the Drinking Water Supply Business Entity at BP Batam, highlighted the significance of this first-of-its-kind project in Batam, in line with the future green energy program.

Vivi Simampo, Director of PT Batam Sarana Surya, announced the construction of solar panels with a total capacity of 120 MWp, beginning with an initial phase of 5 MWp. "Our commitment is to drive the national mission towards zero-emission green energy," she said.

Similarly, Dimas Adi Wibowo, SPV Business Development of PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk, confirmed their commitment to green energy, with plans to build solar panels of 46 MWp capacity at the Tembesi Reservoir.

The initiative is viewed as a critical step in Indonesia's transition towards sustainable energy sources, with BP Batam playing a pivotal role in facilitating this transition.
