Teijin Group, one of the largest textile producers in Indonesia, plans to build a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 30 MW in Tangerang, West Java in a bid to reduce production cost, Neraca reported on Friday.
The company's plan to build the coal-fired power plant was unveiled after a meeting between the top executives of the Tokyo-based textile company with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Place on Thursday.
Toru Nagashima, the president director of the Indonesian unit of the Japanese company, said that the increase in the oil prices had seriously affected the operation of most Indonesian textile companies including Teijin which employs about 1,500 workers in Indonesia.
Nagashima said the company would continue to expand its activities in Indonesia despite the problem, and planned to invest about US$50 million in three years to support the expansion plan. (*)
