Teka Mining starts construction of $1.2b nickel smelter

PT Teka Mining Resources has started construction of a US$1.2 billion ferronickel smelter in Weda, Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province.
Bisnis.com quoted company Director Antonius Sugiharto as saying Wednesday that the output of the 900,000-ton per annum capacity smelter will be nickel pig iron with nickel content of 8-10 percent Ni.
He said that the project will be developed in three stages, with investment in the first phase estimated at $210 million.
?We?re targeting the first stage to be completed and start production mid next year,? he said on the sidelines of a ground breaking ceremony last week. (*)
