State-owned telecommunications firm PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) have signed a memorandum of understanding to integrate digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy supply, aiming to support the development of green data centers in Indonesia.
The agreement was signed in Jakarta on April 13 by Telkom Chief Executive Dian Siswarini and PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto, as part of broader efforts to accelerate digital transformation while advancing the country’s energy transition.
Under the partnership, Telkom will develop digital and data center ecosystems powered by low-emission energy, including biomethane. PGN will supply the fuel, which is produced from palm oil waste in Sumatra.
The cooperation includes joint studies and potential implementation of green energy solutions across Telkom Group’s domestic and international data center network, with a focus on ensuring reliable low-carbon energy supply for next-generation facilities.
Bhimo Aryanto, Senior Director of Business Performance and Assets Optimization at sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia, said the collaboration reflects efforts to strengthen synergy among state-owned enterprises and global partners.

He said the initiative could improve efficiency, create sustainable value and enhance Indonesia’s position in the regional digital ecosystem.
Dian said the agreement would support cleaner and more efficient energy use in data centers while reinforcing Indonesia’s digital sovereignty and positioning the country as a regional digital hub.
Telkom has identified five domestic locations that could be supported by PGN’s energy supply — Cikarang, Batam, Serpong, Sentul and Surabaya — all of which are connected to PGN’s existing gas pipeline network.
Arief said biomethane would play an increasing role in PGN’s transition from a conventional gas distributor into a provider of cleaner energy solutions.
Separately, TelkomGroup is expanding international partnerships in green digital infrastructure through its data center subsidiary NeutraDC, including a collaboration with Sembcorp Development Ltd.
The partnership, launched in 2025, focuses on integrating digital infrastructure, platforms and sustainable energy services to support enterprise customers.
The combination of domestic and global initiatives is expected to support the development of AI-ready green data centers and strengthen TelkomGroup’s position in Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure market.
The companies said the agreement reflects a shared ambition to deliver scalable solutions that combine digital infrastructure with sustainable energy while creating long-term value.
