Temas Line expands to coal shipment business

Publicly listed shipping firm PT Pelayaran Tempuran Emas Tbk. (Temas Line) announced on Monday its expansion plan to enter coal shipment business.

Temas’ president director Harto Kusumo said in Jakarta that efforts were now underway by the company to seek two units of ships suitable for transporting coal.

The diversification plan could be realized this year, he said. “We have been seeking (the ships) for three months but we have not yet found the right ones. Hopefully, we will get ones this year,” he was quoted by Neraca daily as saying.

Harto declined to reveal the investment needed for the planned purchase of ships but said that the company would seek loans for the expansion project from banks.

Besides, he said, the company would lease its ships which were no longer ineffective and replace the use of oil fuel for the ships due to the company’s declining working performance in 2006 on the fuel price hike. (*)
