Ten coal mining companies have obtained export license, or better known as registered exporter status, from the Ministry of Trade, according to a senior official.
Director General of Foreign Trade, Partogi Pangaribuan, told Petromindo.com over the weekend that the 10 companies comprised of seven holders of coal contracts of work (PKP2B) and three holders of mining business permits (IUP).
The PKP2B coal miners are PT Indominco Mandiri, PT Jorong Barutama Greston, PT Bharinto Ekatama, PT Trubaindo Coal Mining, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, PT Antang Gunung Meratus, PT Borneo Indobara; while the IUP coal miners are PT Bara Alam Utama, PT Lembu Swana Perkasa, and PT Jambi Prima Coal.
The ten firms are the first group of coal miners to have obtained the export license since the Ministry of Trade (MoT) introduced a new export mechanism, under which miners can only ship coal overseas once they have obtained the registered exporter status. To be able to obtain the export license, the miners must meet certain requirements set by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).
The new policy was initially planned to become effective September 1, but as miners need more time to meet the requirements set by the MEMR, the MoT has agreed to delay it for a month.
