Tenaga seeks additional 5 MTPA of coal supply to new power plant

Malaysian-state utility Tenaga Nasional Bhd. is seeking additional 5 million tonnes per annum of coal for its new 1000 MW supercritical coal-fired power plant in Manjung, Perak state, Malaysia, the company?s official told Petromindo.Com.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd?s wholly-owned subsidiary, TNB Janamanjung Sdn Bhd, has awarded the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract to Alstom and its consortium partner, China Machinery Import and Export Corporation.

The official said that the project has started construction and it expected to come online in 2015.

The specification of the coal is match for Indonesian coal, the official said, adding that it welcomes to any new Indonesian buyer to deal with Tenaga.

At present, Tenaga?s power plants consume around 20 million tonnes per annum of coal, which 66 percent or around 12 million tonnes per annum is coming from Indonesian coal supplier such as KPC, Arutmin, Adaro, Indominco, etc, the official said.

The remaining of around 8 million tonnes is coming from Australia and South Africa, the official said. (denny)
