Tender for geothermal power plants may be delayed

Tuesday, June 30 2009 - 02:25 AM WIB

The tender for the development of 13 new geothermal power plants may be delayed because an independent appraisal team assigned to determine estimated costs of the power projects will unlikely be able to complete their work on schedule, a senior official at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has said.

Sugiharto Harsoprayitno, the director of geothermal division at the ministry, said in Jakarta on Monday that the team was scheduled to complete the appraising works on July 30.

?As far I know, the team has not begun their works. I am worried that the tender for the 13 geothermal power plants will be postponed due to the delay in the appraisal works,? he added.

The government is preparing the tender for the construction of 13 geothermal power plants to be built under the Phase Two 10,000 megawatt power development plan. The tender could be held only after the release of estimated regional prices of the geothermal power supply (HPL) and estimated price of power supply from individual power plant (HPS).

The HPL tariff is fixed by the government while the HPS by state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). In order to provide a fair HPS price, PLN has assigned to an independent team to carry out the assessment. (bernard)
