Tenders for geothermal projects planned

The government is in the final preparation of holding another round of tender for geothermal projects, mostly located in Sumatra and Java.
?Total electricity generation potentials from these tenders are about 2,000 MW. Minimal capacity in each area is set at 2x5 MW,? Director of Geothermal at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Sugiharto Harsoprayitno said over the weekend.
The government, he said, is committed to achieving electricity generation target from geothermal of 12,000 MW by 2025. With its financial and expertise contraints, the government will partner with private firms to carry out surveys on geothermal potentials.
Indonesia holds a huge geothermal potential, capable of generating 29,000 MW of electricity. So far, geothermal has generated 1,206 MW of electricity.(*)
