Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco), has signed deals valued at Y2 billion with state-owned power company PLN, under which it will provide consulting services for two expansion projects the latter is undertaking, Dow Jones reported.

Tepco's plant design unit, Tokyo Electric Power Services Co., will provide PLN with consulting services including basic plant design, while also supervising the power plant expansion projects, said an official from the Tepco unit.

PLN plans to boost the capacity of its Muara Karang thermal power station near Jakarta to 920,000 kilowatts by June 2008 from the current 500,000 KW. To meet this goal, the utility will build two gas-turbine power generators and retrofit its outdated steam turbine generators.

At its Muara Tawar power station, located 30 kilometers from Jakarta, PLN will build a 200,000-KW combined-cycle generator, said the official. Commercial operations at the generator are slated to begin in January 2008.(*)
