TGI names consultant to investigate Grissik-Duri pipeline leak

PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia (TGI) is waiting for the result of the investigation into the cause of the leakage on the company?s pipeline which supplies gas from ConocoPhillips? Grissik gas field to PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI)?s Duri oil field in Riau.

TGI?s corporate secretary Ivan Irawan said in Jakarta on Monday that the company had appointed an international consultant to investigate the leakage on the KP 277 pipe section located in Kampung Sawahm Indragiri, Riau.

But Ivan refused to give the consultant?s name.

?We are still waiting for the result of the investigation. We hope the investigation result can be announced in this October,? he told Bisnis Indonesia daily.

The pipe leak which occurred on Sept. 29 has cut off gas supply to CPI which uses the gas to enhance oil recovery in the company?s Duri field. The oil company?s production dropped up to 152,000 barrels per day due to the cut in the gas supply.

On Oct. 6, CPI president director Abdul Hamid Batubara said that it will take about two weeks for CPI?s Minas and Duri oil and gas fields to resume normal production level after the company shut down its operation in the wake of gas supply stoppage.

Abdul Hamid said that TGI has now resumed its gas supply to Chevron but the oil and gas company will need time to return to normal production level as it has to first clean up its steam generator units located in 12 areas following the shut down.

Gas plays a vital role in the Duri field as the field uses waterflooding technique in oil production process. (*)
