TGS-Nopec, partners complete two seismic projects

TGS-Nopec Geophysical Company said two new non-exclusive 2D seismic programs have been completed in Indonesia totaling 16,000 km, OGI News reported on Monday.

The acquisitions, conducted in a joint effort by TGS-Nopec, WesternGeco, and Directorate General of Oil and Gas (MIGAS), were carried out in the Makassar Straits and the Bonaparte Basin.

TGS said the Circum Makassar (CM-01) shoot, some 7,350 km, was is located in the Makassar Straits immediately south of the Mangkalihat Arch, through the western Makassar Straits adjacent to Sulawesi where the Mahakam Delta-99 Survey showed the presence of large structures, and onto and south of the Paternoster Platform.

Processing was completed in August 2002 and interpretation of the data is being undertaken, and the report will be complete in October 2002.

The primary goals of CM-01 were to provide a quality grid over the Makassar Straits and to image the large trusts offshore Sulawesi. The program followed the successful MDD-99 survey TGS acquired in the area, which ties key wells in the region and provides data over the deepwater Mahakam Delta.

TGS said its Matahari survey (MH-01), approximately 8,350 km covering the offshore Bonaparte Basin in Indonesian waters, has been completed and processed. The new survey ties six wells in adjacent Australian waters. Interpretation of the data is underway and will be complete in September 2002.

The Matahari survey was a joint effort between TGS, WesternGeco, MultiWave Geophysical, and MIGAS. It will provide a regional grid of modern high quality seismic data, which will allow explorers to better evaluate the geological evolution and petroleum systems in this relatively unexplored region, which is adjacent to the major gas-condensate accumulations of Sunrise-Troubadour, Evans Shoals, and the recent Abadi-1 discovery in Indonesian waters.

Both the Circum Makassar survey and the Matahari survey were acquired in preparation for licensing rounds to be held by MIGAS in early 2003. (*)
