Thai firm expects more than 1 MTPA from Kalimantan mine

Thai-listed transport, energy and infrastructure investment company Thoresen Thai Agencies PCL said its Indonesian coal mining unit is in the final phase of exploration work.

CEO M.L. Chandchutha Chandratat was quoted by Bangkok Post on Friday as saying that an estimated 15-18 months of construction will be required to develop a mine site in Indonesia after all exploration has been completed. ?We hope to mine more than one million tonnes per year in Indonesia in the next few years,? he said.

Thoresen has 40 percent stake at Qing Mei Pte. Ltd., which owns owns a 70% stake in 33,000 hectares of coal concessions in Central Kalimantan

According to the company?s earlier presentation, the concessions fall on the the Warukin coal formation and initial exploratory work has indicated approximately 110 million tonnes of reserves in less than 20% area explored. (*)
