Thai's EGAT in Indonesian coal mining venture

Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)said on Friday its unit is entering into a coal mining joint venture in Indonesia.

According to a report, EGAT's overseas investment arm EGAT International Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Inter Mining & Energy Co., a Thai company, and Indonesia's PT Beringin Coal Prakasa to jointly invest in the coal mining business.

In late October, EGAT's board gave the green light for the power agency to bid for a coal mining exploration license in Indonesia, in a move to secure fuel supply for future expansion.(*)
