Thailand is trying to develop a clean and environmental-friendly power generation, so it tries to focus on the clean coal technology and cap the import for the clean coal only. The Southeast Asia nation is also planning to develop the renewable energy sources, such as wind, hydro, solar and biomass energies for long term power generation.

?We stress on clean coal technology only and import coal with less than 1 percent of sulfur content,? Director Business Development and Marketing of Lanna Resources Plc Ltd Srihasak Arirachakaran said on the 3rd Annual Business Meeting of Indonesian Coal Producers and Buyers in Legian, Bali.

However, Srihasak said that Thailand is an energy power importer and the government should be more careful in developing energy sector in the next 20 years.

He stated that Thailand?s power generation still needs coal as part of its energy mix, besides crude oil and natural gas. Indonesia is one of the coal suppliers to Thailand power plants. ?The coal import growth is increasing from Indonesia,? he said.
