Therma Luzon seeks more Indonesian coal suppliers

Philippines firm Therma Luzon Inc., a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp. is scouting for coal supply from Indonesian mines.

EVP & COO Benjie Cariaso said in Singapore on Thursday that the Company is in talks with several miners to meet its increasing coal requirement.

Cariaso said thus far it has secured 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal supply from East Kalimantan miners PT Kideco Jaya Agung and PT Indominco Mandiri; each is committed to supply 1MTPA for three years starting 2009.

He did not give detail about additional volume the company would need to import from Indonesia.

Therma Luzon manages 700-MW Pagbilao coal-fired power plant in the Philippines. (denny)
