Thiess bags $250m E. Kalimantan coal mining contract

Australian firm Thiess Pty Ltd through its subsidiary PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia has secured a US$250 million mining contract with PT Inkor Prima Coal (IPC) at Samboja Coal Mine Project, East Kalimantan

The contract will span five years and includes the removal of overburden removal and the provision of other mine support services, it said

The project is expected to commence in June 2008.

?Current activities and resources in East Kalimantan mean we are well positioned to deliver the requirements of the Samboja coal mine,? Thiess Indonesia?s President Director Roy Olsen said.

According to Thiess, IPC is an Indonesian based mine owner and coal marketer. The Samboja coal mine is the company's first greenfield mine site.

Thiess Pty. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)-listed Leighton Holdings Limited. (denny)
