PT Thiess Contractor Indonesia, a contractor of South Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Arutmin Indonesia, has started recruiting new workers despite demand from its former workers that recruitment could be done only after their dispute with the company management has been resolved, local daily Banjarmasin Post reported on Tueday.

Thiess fired 633 workers in June after they refused to return to work at its mining projects on June 8, the deadline set by the company management.

The workers had gone on strike, demanding the company management remove one of the company?s supervisors who they said as too arrogant. It turned down their demand.

After being fired, the 633 people filed their complaints to the local office (P4D) in charge of solving labor disputes. Recently, P4D submitted the case to the national agency dealing with labor dispute (P4).

Last Friday, dozens of the dismissed workers were involved in a fight with security officers.

Thiess operates in Kelumpang Tengah in Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. (*)
