Thome Group to open Indonesian office

The Singapore-based ship management company Thome Group will soon open its office in Jakarta to take the advantage of the growing ship management business as the result of the full implementation of the cabotage policy in Indonesia by the end of this year, Kontan daily reported Thursday.

Olav Thorstensen, Thome Group?s Chairman & CEO, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the implementation of the cabotage principle in Indonesia which allows only Indonesian-flagged ships to conduct commercial shipment activities in the country would result in the increase in the demand for ship management services.

?The oil and gas and logistics business is growing quite rapidly in Indonesia. We will take the advantage of this growing business,? he said during a press conference in Jakarta.

He said that Thome?s Indonesian office would provide ship management services to cargo ships and vessels involved in offshore oil storage and production activities. At present, Thome provides ship management services for the operations of vessels in offshore gas fields owned by BP Indonesia, ExxonMobil and StatOil.(*)
