Thousands of coalmine workers in South Kalimantan on strike

At least 3,000 workers of PT Pama Persada Nusantara, a subcontractor of the country?s major coal mining company PT Adaro Indonesia have been on strike since Saturday after the chief of the labor unit in the company was attacked by a group of unidentified men, Banjarmasin Pos reported.
According to information gathered by the newspaper, AM Janatha, the head of the company?s labor unit was attacked by a group of unidentified men after his meeting with representatives of the company.
In the meeting, AM Janatha and the company?s representatives discussed the possibility of increasing the working shifts from two to three shifts.
However, a group of men immediately attacked Janatha when he was about to leave the meeting. He suffered serious injuries due to the attack. The company?s executives were not available for comments. (*)
