Thousands of IUP mining business permits are likely to be revoked as many of a total 3,900 IUP mining permits have yet to obtain the so-called clean and clear (C&C) status.
Heriyanto, Head of the Legal Bureau at the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, said on Tuesday there are still many documents which have yet to be submitted by the regency administrations to the provincial administrations for assessment process by the October 2 deadline.
According to the existing Law No 23/2014 on local administrations, provincial governors hold authority in recommending which of the IUP mining permits should be given the C&C status by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Heriyanto said that the governors have until January 2017 to give the recommendation. He said that so far, the ministry has received only 1,000 IUP documents from the governors as per early October.
He said that IUP mining permits which have not been recommended by the governors for the C&C status will automatically be revoked.
He added that regency administrations failing to submit the IUP documents by the October 2 deadline are in breach of the law and will be given sanctions ranging from administrative to financial sanctions.
