Three coalmine executives investigated for allegedly damaging environment

Three senior executives of coalmine companies PT Tanito Harum controlled by businessman Kiki Barki and PT Multi Harapan Utama controlled Graeme Robertson, both based in East Kalimantan, are being investigated by the Kutai police for their alleged involvement in environmental destruction in the province, Kompas daily repored on Saturday.

The police said that the three men were summoned for investigation in connections with serious environmental damages in the two company?s mining concessions.

The companies had failed to carry out rehabilitation program in their mine areas. The land formerly used for exploration was not covered properly, causing serious damages in the environment.

The three men, Sup, Sug from Tanito and Sud from Multi Harapan, were being investigated because they were directly responsible for the companies? mining activities, the police said.

The investigation due to environmental offences is the first ever made by the local police. (*)
