State owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will this year launch the tender of three mine-mouth power plants which will be built under a public private partnership (PPP) scheme in Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

The three coal-fired power plants will comprise PLTU Jambi, PLTU Sumsel 9 and PLTU Sumsel, which have combined capacity of 2,600 megawatt, PLN?s coal division head Helmi Najamuddin said.

Meanwhile head of PLN procurement division Monstar Panjaitan said that the tender for the three power plants would be carried out in September this year.

?As the tender process would generally take a year, processing for financing also about a year, and construction about 3.5 years, the commercial operation can be carried out between 2017 and 2018,? he added.

At present there are three mine-mouth power plants which have begun commercial operation. All are located in South Sumatra, all with combined capacity of 687 megawatt.

Monstar said that PLN would also retender PLTU Riau coal-fired power plant, which would have a capacity of 2 x 300 MW. He said PT Bukit Asam previously won the tender, but because it was too expensive it would be retendered in May, this year. (*)
