The Pangkalan Susu 2x200 MW coal-fired power plant has not been able to supply power to the North Sumatra system since February 17 after three towers in the province?s Pangkalan Susu District, Langkat Regency collapsed.

The company said in a statement obtained Friday that the towers fell down because many of its member towers (main bracings) were sawed off and stolen.

PLN said that as temporary measure, the company is currently building emergency towers in the hope that the Pangkalan Susu power plant would be able to resume power supply to the North Sumatra system on February 25.

It added that construction of new permanent towers would take about two months to complete.

The second unit of the Pangkalan Susu power plant started commercial operation in April of last year. The first unit is currently in commissioning stage.
