Thriveni to develop new coal mine, briquetting plant, power plant in S. Sumatra

Coal mining firm PT Thriveni plans to spend US$20 million to develop a new coal mine in South Sumatra Province.
C. Kumaresan, Country Head in Indonesia of India?s Thriveni,told Petrmindo.com on the sidelines of an independent power producer conference held by Petromindo recently that besides developing the new coal mine, the firm plans to develop a coal briquetting plant and a power plant with 6 MW capacity.
Kumaresan explained that from the $20million of investment budget, around $18 million will be allocated for developing the briquetting plant and power plant. Around $2 million will be used for developing the coal mine.
?Currently we are entering the land clearing stage for opening the new coal mine,? he said. Kumaresan, however, refuses to reveal the exact location of the project. He explained that the firm is targeting to start developing the briquetting plant and the power plant in July or August 2016.
?We expect within 13 month after starting the development, we are able to produce the briquette,? he said, adding that the firm will use briquetting technology from United States of America and India. He added that the briquetting plant will have capacity of 500,000 tons per year. While from the coal mine the company is targeting around 2 million tons per year of production.
