Tiga Baji to build nickel smelter in Central Sulawesi

The company?s President Director Anton R. Santoso said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the company was still assessing the right technology for the smelting plant. ?According to the schedule, the plant will begin commercial operation in 2015,? he added.
Anton said that Tiga Baji would allocate about Rp 500 billion in investment from the company?s internal funds for the construction of the smelter, which will have a capacity of about 100,000 tons of nickel ores per month.
He said that the total investment for the construction of the smelter would range between Rp 300 billion and Rp 500 billion depending on the type of the technology which would be used.
In addition to the smelter in Martabe, Tiga Baji would also build a nickel ore smelting plant in Halmahera island, North Maluku to support the operation of the company?s nickel mine in the area.
He said that the company was currently waiting for a mining permit from the North Maluku government to develop the coal mine in Halmahera island. (*)
